" He (Alexander J. Cantrell) did (go to prison). My mom received some letters and information this past summer from one of his grandsons. He got into some business with a cousin, the "story" is that the cousin mislead a family who invested in them and stole the money and my great grandpa took the fall. He also (after leaving Maggie and his three kids), married a lady in Chicago. Got her pregnant and disappeared on her. She carried the baby full term but it was still born. He later returned and she wouldn't take him back. After that...there is no record. There is a story that he had another family in, I believe...Indiana? 3 daughters possibly with that lady. Maggie had thought he died because of a gambling fight or drowned in a area that was flooded in Kentucky? I never got to meet my grandmother Cosby. She died when my mom was 18 of a brain tumor. She never told anyone she was sick. I can get you all of the names of her children, dob's, who they married, their children and Cosby's dob and death date. My heart aches to know that Alexander just left. My mom's cousin did fill in a few blanks, but this has haunted me since I was little. Cosby married William Laney from Louisa, Ky, he was a good grandpa to me. Thank you so much for contacting me with the information...if you find out anything else, I'd love to know! Its great to find relatives no matter how far apart! I have attached a picture of Cosby, she was so beautiful. I think in one, its my momma and my uncle john sitting in her lap. She was a member of the Bradshaw Community Church in Paynesville, West Virginia. Edna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved her family and enjoyed sharing stories about the history of her family. Edna loved sewing, selling avon, visiting her friends and family, traveling and researching her Vance, Mullins and Horn ancestry. Every year she anxiously looked forward to the Vance Reunion to reconnect with her Vance family members.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar (Virgie Lee) Mullins, Lindberg (Violet) Mullins, Ralph Mullins, and David Mullins; one sister, Edith Mullins; sister-in-law, Sally “Kent” Mullins; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Bowles."Survivors include her husband, William Gilbert Horn; son, Jerry (Susie) Horne of Princeton, West Virginia; grandson, Jerad (Lisa) Horne of Princeton, West Virginia; great-granddaughter, Ella Horne of Princeton, West Virginia; sisters, Corina Payne of Paynesville, West Virginia; Carolyn Bowles and Brenda (Larry) Lyons of Lindside, West Virginia; sister-in-law, Wynonia “Sis” Mullins of Newport News, Virginia and Judy Mullins of Roanoke, Virginia.
